Toby Starr is a partner of the firm. Toby is a Solicitor-Advocate with full rights of audience before the English civil courts. He trained and qualified into commercial litigation at City of London firm Linklaters before joining US firm Debevoise & Plimpton, where he advised clients in international and domestic litigation and arbitration.
Toby's practice is a broad commercial dispute resolution practice which has recently assisted clients in English High Court litigation, in international and domestic arbitration and in a range of contentious negotiations in the fields of banking and finance, private equity, projects and international joint ventures. The practice encompasses predominantly contract- and tort-based disputes. In addition, Toby acts as advocate in English employment litigation before the High Court, Employment Tribunals and the Employment Appeal Tribunal.
Recent cases include derivatives and banking litigation in the High Court, complex breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty litigation in the High Court, private equity disputes, international arbitrations and UK litigation in support of international arbitrations, contentious negotiations in a range of pre-litigation cases which settled and employment cases in collective redundancy, protective award, discrimination and unfair dismissal cases as well as advice in injunction cases, enforcement matters and specialist procedural issues. In many of these matters Toby settled pleadings, drafted and presented applications and/or conducted trial advocacy.
Toby graduated in law from Cambridge University (Trinity Hall) and took his Law Society finals at Chester College of Law. He is a member of the Solicitors Association of Higher Courts Advocates and of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
